Graphics WEB Safe Colors
There are only 216 colors that we can be sure will be displayed correct and fairly good identical in some Web Browsers on MAC and Windows.
We therefore recommend that you use those "WEB SAFE COLORS" for big color field, backgrounds or typography.
There's a minor problem for a designer when selecting colors. If the reader of your page(s) has their video set for 256 colors, then the browser will only display the 216 colors you see in the table below.
There are 256 * 256 * 256 colors (around 16 million). When selecting colors always try to pick ones that the browser do not dither. Dithering is basically a process of making one color by mixing pixels of others colors, as opposed to setting the pixel to the color you want. And that is not always a good effect.
Here is the basic concept of what are called the SAFE COLORS:
In HEX, each red, green or blue component must start with: 00 or 33 or 66 or 99 or CC or FF. Instead of 256 levels of red, green and blue, you have to use only 6 levels to be safe. This will result in 6 * 6 * 6 or 216 colors.
